EDGE MAGAZINE COLLECTOR MADNESS
From Kevin Scully @ 6/27/2006 11:44:00 PM
Okay, it's not often this kind of thing happens, so make the most of it plebs.
We need your help.
We're aware that most, or at least some of you might have some knowledge on the world of videogames, and in particular, in the collecting of videogame ephemera. Some things have obvious value, those copies of radiant silvergun, samba de amigo, and rez all make for a lovely pension plan. But then some things have a more abstract value, how much is that mario 100 piece puzzle really worth? is this street fighter soundtrack free from the cover of the nintendo official magazine ten years ago worth the paper it's packaged in?
Anyway, these things can't really be solved, but we think this can. It's a very dear publication to our hearts, old EDGE, we love it, we loathe it, we stop buying it in protest, and then we start buying it again when they do a metroid cover, it's a rollercoaster ride, but we'll always come back for more.
But how much will this all be worth to us? When my children grow up and get their hands on my loot, will they flog my collection of antiquities for a tidy sum, or will the bin men receive a particularity heavy parcel one week? And so we will turn to you, we want to create a fairly reliable compilation of values, possibly as a sister site, we don't know how involved we'll get with this. Starting with EDGE magazine, it's quite an abstract concept, the valuation of a magazine, what with it being available in massive quantities, but only for one month.

How about these, these four horsemen, predicting the fate of the current-gen, very temporary, but are they worth a ton, have a word.

These timeless babies, people always love old games, they're quaint, make you seem cooler than you really are, and reading old reviews of old games is as geek-chic as you can get I would imagine. Do these anthologies make the till drawers of independent games shops quiver with excitement.

Now this is the absolute motherload, all ten variants of the Edge 128 tenth birthday issue, all sealed in their little bags. We've never seen the likes of this on eBay, surely this kind of thing is worth a short holiday to Malibu, a massive new telly, or that facelift I've been saving for.
So please, in the interest of the general public, please comment on this, tell us your views, whether you've bought or sold any of these beauties in the past, how much would you pay to own things like this. (you can't own these, they're mine) We'll probably do dreamcast next, so get your thinking hats on.

Love the Magazines there - if there's one mag worth collecting, for the covers alone, it's Edge. Don't know about a price though, I suppose it depends on the buyer(s) and if the buyer(s) just got their new paycheck. Get a few people interested on eBay and we could be into the hundreds, blend into the eBay background and you might be on tens. It's a tricky one. Where's David Dickinson when you need him, the orange bugger!
